Priszm Group has been under court-appointed receivership since September 14, 2011, when the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Bankruptcy and Insolvency (Commercial List) granted an interim order on the application of The Prudential Insurance Company of America, Pruco Life Insurance Company and Prudential Retirement Insurance and Annuity Company under s. 243(1) of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, appointing RSM Richter Inc. as receiver in Court File CV-11-9375-00CL. The receiver puts the unaudited estimated book value of the assets at $86,842,000 as at September 21, 2011, cautioning that realizations will differ materially. Approximately $67 million is owing to Prudential, the primary secured creditor, and the receiver anticipates the realizable value of the assets will be insufficient to repay Prudential in full. Unsecured creditors totalled approximately $14.5 million as at March 31, 2011, excluding employee obligations.
