Genetic Properties Inc. entered court-appointed receivership on November 6, 2023, when the Ontario Superior Court of Justice appointed Grant Thornton Limited as receiver and manager on the application of The Bank of Nova Scotia, under section 243(1) of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and section 101 of the Courts of Justice Act. Justice Steele's endorsement recorded Genetic Properties' indebtedness to BNS at approximately $4.6 million as at June 19, 2023, a figure also cited in Justice Cavanagh's endorsement. KI Equity Corp., through Andrew Curnew, and Waltmar Capital Inc., as second mortgagee, have each claimed to be secured creditors of the company.
